Sunshine Coast Shallow Water Snapper
With the weather looking good it was time for the SCF Team to do their thing & get to work. This time the boys grabbed the Scout 195 Sport Fish from the team at Sunshine Coast Yamaha & hit the water before first light. The plan was simple, shoot up the coast to film a ‘How to catch shallow water snapper’ video, hoping to have the pressure off before the morning bite, so the boys could have a stress free enjoyable day on the water!
The boys fished from before dark until about 10am, hoping they could catch a stray fish, but knowing deep down the morning bite was well and truely over. Knowing that they would have little to no chance of catching a snapper in such shallow water throughout the middle of the day, the boys decided to take the opportunity of having the boat, the team and Kieren the photographer/videographer on board. The boys took this opportunity to shoot over to Old Women Island, and film a “How to catch squid video,’ before Benny cooked up some delicious calamari burgers to finish the episode. After a huge team effort helping film a Catch + Cook episode on board, on top of being up since 4:30am the team was exhausted, but they knew they could’t waste the opportunity. They moved back into the snapper grounds at around 3pm, knowing they had about 3 hours up their sleeve to try and boat a snapper. The stress levels were high, and fatigue and frustration was setting in. Benny finally managed to hook a decent snap right on sunset, but unfortunately this one was camera shy and ran him straight along the reef, busting him off in seconds. Benny losing that fish was enough for the boys to call it a day, with Benny signing off to the camera and Heathy already packed up and ready for the run home. A quick comment from Deano, “Come on Healthy, have one more,” was enough to get both Benny & Heathy back on deck for a few more casts. The boys got joking about the pokes and how today was due to pay. Only seconds later the ‘roughy’ came through, with Healthy hooking a new PB Snap right on the buzzer. With only 4lb main line and 12lb leader the fight had the boys on edge, but as usual they got the job done. Check out how it all went down in the above video!!
